Can I get a password reset for my alienDVR?

To protect users data and privacy the AlienDVR has no "back door" password. Therefore if you have lost the password or simply can not remember it the AlienDVR will have its password reset by following a special security procedure.

Step one would be to contact the original installer of the DVR and see if they had set up an "admin" password and give you this OR create a new password for yourself. So please initially contact your original DVR installer.

If the installer can not help you then it is possible to reset the password yourself but this will involve either returning the DVR back to us or purchasing a Password reset kit. It is important that you can prove you OWN the DVR and have a legal right to have the password reset. Just like your mobile phone or your bank account PIN you wouldn't want someone resetting it and taking it over with no security checks. To protect you we have the same strict procedures with resetting a security device such as the AlienDVR.

How to Prove you own the AlienDVR

1. Supply a purchase invoice of the DVR with your name or Company on it
2. Supply proof of who you are, a utility bill with your name or Company on it.

If you can not provide proof of purchase we can contact the original installer of the equipment and ask them details of who they installed or sold it to and if it's not under contract with them, we could then proceed to reset it for you provided you have sent us proof of who you are (Doc B).

Please open a support ticket by supplying your DVR serial number if you would like us to go ahead with the reset process.

Can I monitor and control multiple DVRs with the AlienVision alienDVR PC client software?

You can control up to 200 alienDVRs using the AlienVision client software and display feeds from different DVRs in one window. The friendly interface makes it quick and easy to switch between DVRs so it's a great solution for monitoring multiple sites.

Can I monitor and control my alienDVR CCTV system over the Internet?

Yes you can with the AlienVision client software or one of the free mobile apps available. You'll need to make sure your alienDVR recorder has been configured correctly by your CCTV installer but once it has there a few ways you can get complete control over your security system.

The alienDVR is easy to control locally using a connected screen and a USB mouse but most system owners prefer to keep the recorder locked away to stay within the CCTV Code of Compliance and the latest GDPR regs.

Using the alienVision software you can connect a single or multiple DVRs either on site or over the Internet and keep most of the functionality available from a direct connection.

Can I remotely view and control my Alien DVR CCTV camera system over the internet using my mobile android device?

The FREE Alien DVR CCTV Android App for Tablets is available in the Google Play Store which allows you to view your cameras and control your DVR from anywhere in the world. Just search for "alien dvr" on the Play Store.

The Android phone App is available to download from www.softcctv.com

What internet speed do I need stream live video from an alienDVR?

The quality of image you can stream depends on your available bandwidth and the bit rate of the live images you are trying to view. For best results we recommend setting the DVR's sub-stream to CIF @ 12fps which requires 256kb/s per channel in live view.

If you have a high speed internet connection you can increase the stream quality and frame rate to suit your needs. At 720p 12fps image for example would require roughly 2MB/s per channel.

What's the electronic map (eMap) function in the AlienVision software?

AlienVision has a powerful built-in eMap tool which allows you to import an image of your site and building layout in the software. You then add camera icons on to the "eMap" to show where your cameras are located on-site then once setup simply click a camera icon to display its live image. It's a really intuitive and efficient way of monitoring your CCTV system rather than having to remember which channel number shows which location.
