How do I troubleshoot audio over the HDM220?

If you have purchased equipment to transmit HDMI signals over ethernet cable(s) and are experiencing difficulties you need to carry out fault finding to work out the cause of the equipment not giving you the results you want. With HDMI transmission equipment 99.9% of all causes of non performance can be solved on site and are related to a site incompatibilty, setting or cable issue.

We test HDMI over network extenders we will carry out our tests using a patch cable and known 1080P source and monitor so please ensure you do the same to avoid wasting time and resources.

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot this issue.

Ensure the HDMI cable is securely connected to both the source device, the HDM220 and the TV / monitor. Remove All HDMI Splitters or extenders (other than the HDM220).

NOTES:

Set the TV to the correct video input to receive the signal from the source device.

Set the audio output setting of the source device to output a compatible audio signal.

IMPORTANT:

Make sure the volume is turned up on the DVR. You also may need to go into the menu and select HDMI in the Audio Settings or Audio Coding section to pass the audio to the TV, a good way to see if this is working is by testing the Source direct to a TV (ensure you test all the HDMI cables in the setup with the TX connected direct to the source / DVR, it only takes 1 faulty or incompatible cable to stop Audio over HDMI to not work).

Check if audio output of the source device is not set to Dolby Digital or DTS sound, as the HDM220 only supports PCM. If assistance is needed to change the audio settings, consult the instruction manual or manufacturer of the source device or try another source device

If there is still no sound, perform a power reset on the TV .

If there is still no sound after power resetting the TV, replace the HDMI cable.

The troubleshooting steps listed above should resolve your issue. If you have completed all of the steps and the issue is not resolved, then we would suggest lastly to check the HDM220 and the monitor with another source device which can produce Audio over HDMI.
